Session 5 - Podcasts

I really liked how Radio WillowWeb uses podcasting for topics like sound and cultures around the world. I really like the fact that different students can contribute their prior knowledge to a particular lesson as in the case of the cultures around the world podcast. I think for my biology class I would like to do podcasting for topics like genetic disorders and DNA related topics. This is a great tool where students can demonstrate in an innovative way what they've learned. Students will be more willing to do an assignment of this sort and at the same time have fun with it. Gaps in knowledge acquisition are also readily visible through a podcast assignment. Assessing students work is easier this way as well.

I think you may be teaching some of my former 6th grade math and science kids from Burroughs. I have enjoyed reading the blogs and sorting through all the material available for my class. I also like the news aggregators and wikis.

It would be nice to keep in touch and see how the next year progresses and what change we can effect.

I'm new to all of this, I'll be playing around with some of these tools very soon.
